Compensation for cancelled flights
As of December 15, 2019, air passengers may be entitled to compensation if their flight is cancelled. It will depend on the reason for the cancellation and how soon the airline notifies you about the change. If the airline has announced the cancellation less than 14 days prior to departure, you can apply for compensation if you arrive later than 3 hours after expected arrival time.
The length of the delay caused by your cancelled flight and the size of the airline determines your compensation. You can find an overview of the different compensation amounts here.
In addition to the financial compensation, you may also be entitled to further assistance during the delay. This includes meals and refreshments, two phone calls or e-mails, and accommodation and transport to the hotel if this becomes necessary.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are travelling to or from the European Union or travelling with an airline based in the EU, other rules may apply. Read more here.
